Us
San Felipe is 125 miles south of the US border on the Baja California Norte Peninsula directly south of California. San Felipe Animal Rescue was conceived in 2002 and incorporated as a 501 C3 non profit in 2004. We also are registered as an AC in Mexico….Mexico’s equivalent of a non profit charity. We have conservatively estimated that this community has a stray and indigent dog and cat population of between 8,000 and 10,000 animals.
After consultation with other rescue groups and organization it was determined that if we can spay and neuter 75% of this feral population we will be able to achieve a balance between the birth rate and attrition rate. We have so far performed in excess of 5,400 surgeries and continue to do more each month.
San Felipe is an old fishing village whose residents depend on that industry and the tourist trade for income. As such this is a very poor community. The US financial market’s downturn has affected San Felipe by slowing down the American snow bird traffic. The way it is currently the tourist dollar is scarce right now. Our status in Mexico makes us very unlikely to receive any grant money. We are outside the chartered activity zone of most foundations and grant funding sources. This is a huge undertaking. There’s staff to pay, animals to feed, medicines to buy and veterinarians to compensate. Please….won’t you help us? SFAR depends on your charitable contributions.
In place right now we have a Thrift Store and a swap meet booth and a dedicated group of volunteers that raise funds through events held throughout the year.
