Spay and Neuter: The Real Answer to the Over Population
Our last spay and neuter clinic was held at the Animal Rescue site in Las Minitas. There are facilities there to serve as an operating room, recovery room, preparatory area and holding pens for the critters. With Dr. Antonio Solis performing the operations there were a total of 45 animal surgeries done that day. Five cats and 40 dogs went through the appropriate sterilization, received antibiotics to prevent infection, received Ivermectin for worming, and were lined out with DEFEND for tick control. The total cost for this was ($30 X 45 animals) $1350.00 plus another $60.00 for the medications that they received. Lunch was pizza and soda and was provided by one of our volunteers Derik Wille. The whole thing took from 8:00 in the morning until 5:00 in the afternoon and was accomplished with all volunteer labor.
