Tri-Paws can live happy lives.
You're looking at photographs of dogs that have had tramatic injuries and have required an amputation. The Indigent dog fund handles probably 10 to 12 of these kinds of operations a year. The costs range from $600 for a surgery that takes the bad limb off at the shoulder or hip to $150 for a surgery that removes just the damaged portion ….leaving a stump of some kind. We normally opt for the more expensive surgery. What happens is the dog uses the “stump” for support. The skin there isn’t meant for that purpose, abraids and becomes infected. Clearly the need for additional funds here is apparent. |
